Praise for the King
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Sven Goran Eriksson was was full of praise after Ledley King passed his French test with flying colours on Sunday.
Thrown in at the deep end following injury to John Terry, Ledley was outstanding in the Euro 2004 opener, keeping dangermen Thierry Henry and David Trezeguet quiet in a commanding English defensive display.
It looked like the perfect day in Lisbon as England led 1-0 via Frank Lampard's header and with time running out, it looked like even David Beckham's missed penalty in the second half wouldn't matter.
However, France had a certain Zinedine Zidane to turn to and the Real Madrid star curled home a free-kick after Emile Heskey's clumsy foul in the final minute before burying a penalty after David James had upended Henry, who latched onto Steven Gerrard's short back pass. It ended 2-1 and England were crestfallen.
"Ledley King was absolutely fantastic, not nervous at all," said Eriksson. "He couldn't have done better.
"If we had lost 3-0 and not created a chance it would be different. The players are professional. They know they did an excellent job. They did everything we asked of them and hopefully it will not be too difficult to lift them up."
