Praise for Clemence
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Chris Hughton labelled Stephen Clemence the ‘model professional’ after the midfielder helped drive Spurs Reserves to a 3-0 win against Stevenage Borough on Tuesday night.
Clemence was everywhere, opened the scoring from the penalty spot and the sight of him sprinting 50 yards to join a break in the final few minutes underlined what putting on that famous white shirt — cold rainy night in a friendly at Stevenage or in front of 36,000 at the Lane — means to him.
Reserve boss Hughton said: “We don’t expect anything less from Stephen. He is a whole-hearted player, no doubt about that, and still young enough and involved enough to know what this means to all of us, particularly the younger players in the group.
“It’s about games, about proving a point and he’s missed a few days of training in the last week and was desperate to play in this game.
“When he’s like that then you know what type of performance you are going to get. Irrespective of whether or not it’s a good day for him with the ball you know you will get a whole-hearted performance from him.”
John Piercy and the impressive Willem Korsten joined Clemence on the scoresheet and the positive points continued with Anthony Gardner returning from injury and Ledley King getting another 90 minutes under his belt.
Hughton added: “Stevenage are a very good non-league side, we know them well and we knew it would be competitive. It was what we needed at this stage.
“You always look to score more goals but defensively we did well as a team and restricted them to very few chances.
“Willem Korsten also scored a great goal and we know he has that ability. Overall I was delighted with the performance.”
