Gus Poyet has revealed that he has a very big critic when goalscoring chances are not taken - himself.
The attacking midfielder takes no consolation from going desperately close and does not spare himself when he hits the post.
Gus went close on a number of occasions against Charlton on Sunday and feels he should have done better when Tim Sherwood played him through and Dean Kiely blocked with his legs. However, having an effort cleared off the line via the underside of the crossbar he describes as 'unbelieveable'.
"I said to the boys, to everybody, even to my family, that I'm very critical of myself when I miss a chance," said Gus.
"Like in the final when I hit the post, hitting the post is not a good finish - I always see the worst part of that.
"Against Charlton with the two headers there is nothing to say because they say it was too far from the goal. The second one was unlucky, it was unbelieveable, something really strange.
"The ball is going down to the grass, the guy has flicked it, it goes to the crossbar then down - I don't know how he kept it out of the goal.
"The other two, the two that I controlled with my chest, with the first one the only option I had was to try and chip it over his body. He touched it and it was a corner but the referee didn't give it.
"The one I have a few regrets about what I did is the second one. With the keeper where he was I felt I should concentrate on trying to hit the target and not miss the goal. That is the one where I'm really not happy with my finish.
"People will say no, you did alright, you hit it down and the keeper was there to save it and it could have gone through his legs. I like to repeat, I think I could have done better."
