Poyet's battlecry

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Gus Poyet has this battlecry before Monday’s Premiership encounter against Derby County: “We need a win and nothing else.”

Our Uruguayan midfielder has been pleased with the football we’ve played so far this season but knows that it’s the points that really matter.

“We have to beat Derby,” he declared. “Everyone knows that and we need to look to this game to get the three points.

“The first half against Manchester United is the football we have to look for, but over the 90 minutes. It has to be consistent.

“Apart from that I think it will only get better. The football is nice at the moment and a win against Derby will make it even better.”

Meanwhile, Gus was at the centre of controversy again on Merseyside earlier in the week.

After his questionable sending off at Everton he was booked for diving in the Worthington Cup win against Tranmere Rovers.

It looked a harsh decision by referee Philip Dowd as it appeared that Gus had simply leapt out of the way of a wild-looking tackle from the onrushing Steve Yates.

Gus insisted: “It was quite easy to see. I was running with the ball, I saw him coming, I tried to dribble around him but he was coming hard enough to hurt me so I turned out of the way.

“If the referee says I was cheating, you have to laugh. I’ve never had any problems like that. You just have to care for yourself. You are no more macho to stand there and get a broken leg.

“It happens. People in England like football like that but I thought we handled it magnificently.”
