Pot luck for Poyet
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Gus Poyet struck his sixth goal in eight games - then put it down to luck.
Our Uruguayan star bounced back from the concussion that ruled him out of last Thursday's win at Fulham with our vital first goal against Bolton on Monday night.
The midfielder was there when it counted again as Les Ferdinand's header deflected off the crossbar via the post and Mike Whitlow's knee.
It was just the inspiration we needed and having gone ahead, the belief was still there to come back at the end and win 3-2 after Bolton had hit back to level.
"Sometimes you are just lucky," Gus reflected. "This time I was there, I was waiting for the ball, I thought when the ball came from Les, a magnificent header, hit the post and it was running the other way but then it hit the defender's knee and I was talking to the crossbar 'please, pass the ball to me' and it went my way.
"It was important because we said at half-time it would be great to get an early goal and then the second was just beautiful.
"They cut the reaction by scoring but sometimes you are on the pitch and you feel you will win the game. I had that feeling.
"We were talking, encouraging, saying 'come on, we can win the game' and the reaction of the players was magnificent.
"We changed the system and perhaps took a risk and that is great for a team to play four, five attacking players.
"I'm pleased for Teddy also because he deserved his goal, he's been looking for three or four weeks and it was so important for him and the team."
Typically of the man, Gus was ready to put his head where it hurts just nine days after being knocked out at West Ham.
He was attacking the ball in the air from the first minute to the last - when he feared he might get another whack!
"I'm very pleased," he said. "The heading was important because of my problem at West Ham last week but if you know me, maybe some people were thinking ' he won't want to put his head on it' but I showed I didn't care.
"At the end I thought I was going to get another one, I saw the boot coming and though 'no, not again' but I got kicked in the neck. No problem though, it was the last one, it didn't matter."
