Positives at Posh - Kenny
20 July 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Kenny McEvoy knew more than most the challenge ahead as our young Spurs XI team stepped out at Peterborough United.
The winger joined the League One side for his first taste of loan football at the start of last season.
He made eight appearances before returning to Spurs and then going back into League One on loan to Colchester United in January.
Kenny , 20, was back at the ABAX Stadium for Saturday’s pre-season friendly.
“It was so strange going back there as opposition because I’d never been in the away dressing room before!” he said. “It was good seeing everyone again from my first loan. They were really welcoming to me and as a squad, really took me under their wing.
“As soon as I saw the teamsheet I knew that we were up against players who played week in, week out last season and their bench was strong as well. I knew it was going to be tough.”
Kenny was one of only two players over 20 in our squad against an experienced Posh side who forged into a 2-0 lead with goals on 26 and 48 minutes.
But we hit back to level through substitutes Shayon Harrison and Ismail Azzaoui and Kenny forced a sharp save from ex-Spur Ben Alnwick.
However, we were then hit by a late winner at the other end.
“It was ideal for us, better than playing against another Under-21 team, a real test,” reflected the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international.
“We did well to come back from 2-0 down and created plenty of chances as well. We had a young team so there was plenty to take from it.”
