Portugal 'a good test' - Hugo

Sat 11 October 2014, 10:11|Tottenham Hotspur

Hugo Lloris is excited by the prospect of France’s international friendly with Portugal this evening.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper has been in outstanding form of late, earning particular praise for his performance against Besiktas in last week’s Europa League draw and again in Sunday’s Premier League win over Southampton.

The captain of his country, Hugo could face one of the deadliest forwards in world football in the shape of Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo when Les Bleus play their latest friendly at the Stade de France.

The added fact that Portugal are under new management following their defeat to Albania in Euro 2016 qualifying last month means it’s shaping up to be an intriguing clash in Paris.

But with all those factors to consider, Hugo remains characteristically calm and focused on the task at hand.

“I think it’s a good test for us,” he said.

“Obviously we are only playing friendly games (France have automatically qualified for Euro 2016 by virtue of being the host nation) but this is a good match to be involved in because Portugal have a lot of talented players.

“It will also be good to play at home in front of our own fans.”

France face a further friendly in Armenia on Tuesday before the end of the international break.
