Pompey kick off big week for Spurs Ladies

21 November 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs Ladies face a key game on Sunday as they continue to aim high in the FA Women's Premier League.

Portsmouth are the visitors to Cheshunt FC (Theobalds Lane, 2pm) in a fixture Spurs need to win to keep the pressure on the top three.

The FAWPL South has now split with the top six pulling away. Pompey arrive at Cheshunt in sixth with a game in hand on fourth-placed Spurs with Lewes seven points adrift in seventh.

Cardiff (10 wins in 13) are currently top by a point from Brighton with Charlton a further four points back but with games in hand.

Karen Hills and the Spurs squad believe they can fight it out with the top three and that's why it's an important three points on Sunday.

"We're up to fourth now and just ahead of Coventry and Portsmouth, so it's important in terms of putting a bit of daylight between us," said Karen.

"Portsmouth had a huge win (18-0) in a cup competition last week but we're on a nice run as well now and the players are buzzing after the nature of our win against West Ham last weekend.

"I expect a tight, competitive match and we've worked hard this week to get everyone right. There is a good feeling here at the moment, we're getting key players back fit again, the new players have settled well, we've a big week ahead we want to keep it going."

The ladies are still alive on all four cup fronts as well and after Pompey on Sunday, they face a trip to Gillingham in the Ryman Cup quarter-final at Chatham Town FC on Wednesday night (7.45pm) before a trip to Canvey Island and C&K Basildon in the League Cup on Sunday week (November 29, 2pm).
