Point could be vital - Harry

Harry Redknapp admitted he was 'thankful' for what could prove to be a vital point after Rafa van der Vaart’s late, late equaliser in Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw against Stoke.

The clock showed 93 minutes when Gareth Bale delivered the cross of the night from the left and Rafa dived in at the near post to glance home his header.

It was no less than our efforts warranted but it looked like being ‘one of those nights’ when Cameron Jerome scrambled home a free-kick to hand Stoke the lead 15 minutes from time.

Typically stubborn, resolute and tough to break down, Stoke defended well for 93 minutes but were eventually undone.

The point was all the more valuable as Arsenal won at Everton to go ahead of us in the Premier League but fellow Champions League challengers Chelsea lost ground after a 2-1 defeat at City.

Of course, next up is a huge game at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

“It was a tough game, Stoke are never easy to beat and they defended well,” reflected Harry.

“We had a couple of good chances in the first half, got Luka into good positions, but couldn't quite finish.

“Stoke are always a threat on set-plays and I said we had to be careful, try not to give away free-kicks, but we did and paid the penalty.

“In the end we were thankful for Rafa’s goal.

“With four minutes to go it's a good point, with 90 to go it's a bad point. We'd have taken a point with four minutes to go, for sure.

“It might be a vital point at the end of the season, it might just come in handy.

“We need to go on a little run ourselves now, we need to pick ourselves up quickly and pick up a few positive results.”

Meanwhile, Harry reported that Ledley King departed late in the game after picking up a knock on the nose that wouldn’t stop bleeding. He also said that Emmanel Adebayor and Aaron Lennon both remain doubtful for Saturday’s trip to Chelsea with hamstring injuries.
