+Youth profile: John Kyriacou

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Despite the fact that full-back John Kyriacou is only in his first full-time term as a First Year Academy Scholar, the Enfield-born youngster is certainly very familiar with life at Spurs.

Spotted by our scout Dickie Moss, whilst playing football near to his home at Enfield Playing Fields, John was first brought to White Hart Lane more than eight years ago.

At the tender age of nine, the self-confessed Spurs fan, was starting out on the first steps to fulfilling a dream, a journey that took a major leap forward when he signed as an Academy player here in July.

“I was really looking forward to coming in full-time,” enthuses John. “It is very different, but something I am enjoying very much.

“The fact that you are with all the players all the time — six days a week — is good for team building. You feel more like a unit, as you get to know the players better.”

John points out: “With the full-time training, physically I feel that I am becoming fitter as the season progresses and my touch is improving too. With every game I should be improving and we should be working more as a team the longer we play together.”

John was in the starting line-up for the first three matches, but has been on the bench in the subsequent games. Usually a right-back he has certainly shown his versatility, filling in at left-back for the injured Mark Wright in two of those opening fixtures.

“I had a good start to the season, it has been steady and I have enjoyed it,” says John.

“Kieran McKenna has been playing at right back so far this term,” John explains. “He is a third year player, so I have got to work hard to get into the team. I’ll just have to see how it goes, if I train hard and play hard, I will hopefully get the chance.”
