+Sweet Seoul music for Chris
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Chris Hughton is looking forward to the Peace Cup and the new experience of travelling to South Korea.
Long-serving coach Chris has been to all corners of the globe in 11 years as a player for Spurs and Ireland, another 12 on the coaching staff at the club and his other role as the Republic of Ireland’s assistant manager.
However, South Korea is a country he’s yet to tick off. He wasn’t involved with Ireland in the 2002 World Cup and therefore the last 16 thriller against Spain in Suwon, one of the stadiums we play at in the Peace Cup. Naturally, Robbie Keane played and scored in that match.
With the quality of the tournament - matches against Argentinian giants Boca Juniors, Sundowns of South Africa and La Liga outfit Real Sociedad - and the chance for the lads to train and bond, it’s the perfect pre-season trip.
“I’ve never been to South Korea in my travels over the years so it’s a new experience for me and that would go for most of the lads,” said Chris.
“That’s the exciting bit of this trip. We are fortunate that we have quality games out there and of course we’ll have good training out there as well.
“Playing in the World Cup stadiums is another plus for us and the trip a good opportunity for the new players to bond with the group.
“So looking at it overall, the games will be good and the stadiums and playing surfaces are excellent. The quality of the trip is there for everyone to see and we’re delighted to be involved.”
