SCOOP PUT IT to Michael Carrick that he must not be much of a Champagne drinker. The midfielder won Man of the Match following Sunday's win over Newcastle at the Lane and was duly presented with the magnum of Champers, which he proceeded to leave in the dressing room and headed off home. Any ideas old Scoop had of sipping some bubbly were dashed when Michael admitted it was a combination of modesty and forgetfulness that saw him nearly lose his bottle - so to speak... "I didn't want to make too much fuss about it, to be honest," he considered. "I also forgot all about it but, don't worry about that, I will still be getting it back!"
BE A LITTLE bit careful when it comes to asking Johnnie Jackson to sign shirts. Academy driver Terry Agambar got a bit of shock when he requested Jacko and Stephen Kelly put their names to a shirt he was getting signed. "Will you sign my shirt?" asked Terry. Steo duly obliged, while Jacko took him at his word and scribbled his name on the shirt Terry was actually wearing!
PAUL ROBINSON CLEARLY thinks Martin Jol has got a bit of the Dickie Birds about him. Scoop was collecting the thoughts of the Head Coach ahead of this weekend's game with the Dutchman looking dapper his his gleamy white jacket. Robbo strolled past and, after taking a look at the garment, began muttering 'right arm over the wicket - six to come'.
AFTER THE BIRMINGHAM game, Scoop was charged with accompanying goalscorer Stephen Kelly on his round of television interviews. After a lengthy wait outside for home boss Steve Bruce to conclude his reaction, we were a bit slow off the mark in stepping inside and were gazumped by Martin Jol. The producer pointed out that there is, indeed, a pecking order in these matters. Now Martin was unaware that Steo was positioned within earshot when the subject came to his contribution and, possibly expecting a bit of praise, the defender smiled a knowing smile when the Head Coach chose to reflect on his missed opening against Southampton nearly a month earlier.
EN ROUTE TO the reserve encounter with Ipswich last week, Clive Allen and Hans Segers were musing over Emil Hallfredsson's shock call up to the full Iceland side for the friendly match with Italy in Padova. A few minutes in, an alarmed expression crossed the goalkeeping coach's face and he darted off in search of Emil's mobile phone number. "Bet he wants Buffon's shirt!" Scoop suggested to Clive, before Hans frantically began texting away. Correct. Hans was after the jersey of £32m goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon. Emil reported he did receive the text, but there was a stumbling block in carrying out the request. "I got it just before I went to the game, it said something about changing shirts with Buffon, but he didn't play so I couldn't. I think I would have done it for him, but I'm not sure."
