+It's good to talk

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Clive Allen reports that he regularly offers the benefit of his vast experience to the young strikers at the club seeking to make the breakthrough into senior football.

All the forwards in the reserve team group have been among the goals so far this season. Lee Barnard - currently on loan at Leyton Orient - leads the way with eight, followed by Edson Silva Sousa who has netted six, while Jamie Slabber has scored three in four games since his return from injury.

Clive is naturally delighted to assist the players following in his footsteps and feels they are taking on board what he has to say.

"You have to shine and prove yourself at every level," reflected the Development Coach. "You must have the confidence in your ability and remember the things that got you the goals at whatever level you were playing at.

"It is an art and is difficult. As long as you understand and learn how and which way you go about getting goals, if you have the ability you will."

Clive believes that, if a striker develops the goalscoring 'knack' at an early age, he will be able to carry this through into senior football.

"I think you can, but you've certainly got to go about it in the right way," he added. "You must never lose sight of what got you there in the first place, what got you the opportunities.

"Whether it is a sense of being in the right place at the right time, you must keep getting into those areas even if you're not playing well. When chances come and you miss you must not let it affect you in terms of taking it when the next one comes along.

"The art of goalscoring is, when you miss a chance, the next one becomes the most important.

"It is good to talk to the lads, I like talking to the strikers in particular. You just try to pass on those tips, a little bit of the feeling and understanding of the roles they have.

"I do believe that Lee Barnard has taken a lot on board and improved. Jamie is still learning - he knows that - and I think we're making progress. We are scoring and winning games."
