+Haven House tournament a success
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Last week the Club hosted a six-a-side football tournament on behalf of our nominated local charity, The Haven House Foundation Children’s Hospice.
The whole evening was a resounding success with a significant amount of money being raised in aid of the charity.
Before the serious action began the evening’s entertainment started with Fredi Kanoute meeting all the participants and posing for pictures. Eight teams competed, including a mixed parliamentary team hosted by Conservative Party leader the Rt Hon Iain Duncan Smith. In the end, Ellistons Solicitors one of the event’s two sponsors triumphed beating a team from Royal Bank of Scotland.
As a patron of the charity and a Spurs season ticket holder, the Rt Hon Iain Duncan Smith was delighted to be part of the event: “I’ve been involved with The Haven House Foundation Children’s Hospice since the beginning when they had to find premises and overcome some of the stupidity of local politicians who are not in favour of it. We fought all those battles and won, the last big battle now is money. We have raised some but we need more because they only get voluntary contributions. Spurs have been fantastic because the team have been very supportive and visited the children, so Spurs is the right place to be tonight. I’m proud of this Club and I’m also proud of what I do with Haven House.”
Based in Woodford Green in Essex, The Haven House Foundation Children’s Hospice is a registered charity and offers respite care for children from the age of 0 — 19 years of age with life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses including progressive neurological disorders, cancer and leukaemia. The Hospice is free to all who need it without regard to race, religion or colour. To date the Hospice has received no statutory funding and needs to raise approximately £1.3 million per year, this will increase next year.
