+Erik: Don't think too much

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Erik Edman insists it is better not to dwell too much on our recent fortunes as the team prepare to take on Manchester City in the Barclays Premiership at the Lane on Saturday.

In our last three games, trips to Southampton, Newcastle in the FA Cup and Charlton have yielded absolutely no reward despite the team enjoying much possession and creating many chances. As Martin Jol pointed out in his press briefing on Thursday, Paul Robinson had been called on to make just four saves in the three games.

The Swedish international reasons that it is best not to think about hard luck stories and get on with the next job in hand.

"I think we can play better, but we are still creating chances," considered Erik. "I don't think you should analyse or talk about it too much, I think we must just hang in there and keep going.

"When you create chances and don't score, while the opposition makes one chance and scores straight away, it is a tough situation. The only thing you can do is keep fighting.

"Sometimes when you think about it too much it can go the wrong way for you. You can analyse it and make something good out of it, but not too much or it could get worse."

One thing Erik is happy to think about is the prospect of returing to play at the Lane after our three away-days.

"I am really looking forward to it and really want to play in the game. It is a really special thing, I have played in a couple of away games and really want to play in a home one. I hope I will be picked," he added, agreeing that teams are less likely to hit us with an early goal as they generally come with a defensive gameplan to the Lane.

"No, definitely not. I think we all feel it, but it is a fantastic thing to play every time at White Hart Lane - it is great."

Meanwhile, Erik is well aware of the playing pedigree of new City boss Stuart Pearce - particularly as he operated in the same position as him a on the left of defence.

"He was a really tough player who played a physical game and had a really good left foot. He was a class act in his day.

"I don't know about management, he has to prove it. You can be a top player, assistant coach, but still have to prove it when you are in charge.

"They will be keen to impress with having a new manager, but everybody is disappointed with our last few results and we want to put it right on Saturday - and I think we will do."
