+Defendi did good!

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Clive Allen was full of praise for young defender Rodrigo Defendi following his reserve team debut against West Ham on Tuesday evening.

The 18-year-old Brazilian looked a cool customer alongside Anthony Gardner at the back as he sample his first taste of English football.

"He was very positive considering it was his first game and everything is very new to him," commented the Development Coach. "The language is obviously something he is having to overcome as well, but I thought he showed tremendous courage.

"He played when he had to, he defended well when he had to and I thought he was one of the outstanding players of the evening."

It quickly became evident that Rodrigo grew into the game as the match progressed and West Ham's attacking intent was effectively snuffed out.

"He did, you are always worried how players will respond when it is very different. He's joined in particularly well and the lads have accepted him.

"He is a very young man a long way from home - who is showing promise and played very well."

With the score at 1-0, West Ham prepared to bring on a young striker whose ability is particularly well known to Clive - a player who, had he scored and levelled, would have bought about mixed emotions for the coach.

As it turned out, before young Oliver Allen took tot he field, Goran Bunjevcevic doubled our advantage.

"I wished him luck before he went on and it is a big season for him," said Clive of his son's introduction. "It was his first run-out for the reserves and I was pleased it was against us, but he didn't have the opportunity to make any impact.

"That's football though and it is an experience for him. No, I wouldn't have been happy if he had come on and scored at 1-0 and I wouldn't have liked it if we hadn't come out with a clean sheet - we did it right at both ends."
