+Clive on reserve reverse

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Clive Allen admitted he was not feeling any better the morning after his reserve side's 3-0 reverse at Portsmouth on Tuesday, but was able to offer his considered reflections on the evening.

Two goals down after just six minutes to goals from Diomansy Kamara, the striker added a second half penalty to complete a miserable night for the Development Coach and his team, one he hadn't quite got over when it came to looking back on for the second time.

"No, I feel worse!" sighed Clive. "Obviously in the heat of the moment after the game, emotions are running high and things are said - rightly or wrongly at times. That is the nature of the game and the situation you find yourself in.

"The lads were disappointed, I've spoken to them all individually now and they have aired their frustrations over the result. We have to move forward now and make sure we don't start any more games in that fashion."

A scheduled day off was cancelled on Wednesday and Clive feels this was important in order to draw a line under the defeat.

"Definitely, it is a case of assessing what happened and why, trying to understand it and emphasise that it is not unacceptable and we will move forward. The intention is to stay positive, there have been some good performances and excellent results.

"There have been a couple of disappointing ones that, if you want to move higher, you must eradicate from the way you play football.

"You don't know where the bad performances come from but, as I said after the game, I feel you learn a lot about individuals, the group and how they work when things are going against them.

"The game never ceases to amaze me, it has been my life, but sometimes it baffles you as to why these things happen and what the reasons are. I've assessed it, there have been things said and we will now go forward.

"I want the right sort of response in the next game against Watford, from professional players you would expect it."
