+Cerny on Cech mate

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Radek Cerny is well positioned to comment on the impact made by his countryman Petr Cech since he made his mark in the Premiership with Saturday's opponents Chelsea.

The Czech international No.1 joined the Blues from French side Rennes at the beginning of last season after spending a year with Sparta Prague in his homeland. He began his career at Chemel Blsany who, Radek reveals, are a small club in the Czech Republic.

Just 23-years-old, Cech displaced Carlo Cudicini on arrival at Stamford Bridge, the Italian having been one of the most highly-rated keepers in the world himself. Cech went on to concede only 14 Premiership goals as his reputation soared.

"I think Petr Cech is a very good goalkeeper," reasoned Radek. "I know where he started in the Czech Republic, at a small club where he showed a great talent for a young man.

"He progressed through the age-groups at international level, which was good for him and he played in lots of tournaments.

"After leaving his small club he left to join Sparta Prague where he spent just one year and played well in the Champions League. He went to Rennes for two years, got his move to Chelsea and is now one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

"The end of communism was very important for young people like Petr, he is very intelligent and has studied English and German. I only studied Russian and had no chance of playing in western Europe at the same age.

"The coaches at that time had no materials to work with from western Europe back then, but now I think they are the same and can offer the same training and knowledge.

"Petr had the chance to play in tournaments across Europe and was a star at the age of 15."

Radek acknowledges that it appears to take a special strike to get the better of Cech, due in part he added, to the young goalkeeper not over-elaborating in his game.

"He has a great technique and is big. I was in the national squad when Petr first came in and even then every save he made was very good. He works hard in training and you see that in matches.

"He is very young but he makes things look easy and keeps things simple. He doesn't look to make spectacular saves."
