Sporting Director Frank Arnesen was on hand at Spurs Lodge to present second year scholar Scott Thyer with a Welsh Under-19 cap.
Scott was awarded the cap having played for Wales Under-19s in their European Championship qualifying tournament in the Faroe Islands recently, where they faced Hungary, Greece and the host nation. They beat Hungary 1-0, drew 0-0 with Greece but lost 3-1 to the Faroes, and failed to progress, but Scott enjoyed the experience.
“It was great to be part of the Welsh set up out there and playing in that level of competition can only help my game, although of course I was disappointed we didn’t qualify,” said the 17-year-old striker.
Phil Ifil has been called into the England Under-19 international squad for their friendly game against France on Thursday, November 18, at the Oakwell Stadium, Barnsley Football Club.
Our Academy staff are currently very busy compiling written reports for all of our Under-18 players, both first and second years, which have to be completed twice a year.
The coaches produce a written assessment on every player, commenting on education for our full-time boys, as well as their football progress, before meeting with each player and their parents to discuss the report.
The football report covers technique, personality, football intelligence and speed, with comments and suggestions made for their improvement.
Return to the ‘dome’
The evening Schoolboy training sessions have moved inside again, as our indoor training facility — known at Spurs Lodge as the ‘dome’ - was ready for use again. The Under-12s to Under-16s had previously been training outside under temporary floodlights at the Lodge.
