Pleat reflects on Villa fightback
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
David Pleat summed up coming from behind to beat Aston Villa back at the training ground by reflecting that 'all is well that ends well!"
The caretaker boss did admit his concern when Marcus Allback headed Villa into a second half lead, but a couple of tactical substitutions appeared to do the trick and Rohan Ricketts and Robbie Keane turned a deficit into three vital points with two goals in three minutes.
"All is well that ends well!" smiled David. "We didn't start particularly well and were very mediocre, but the conditions were very, very difficult.
"They were trying to play behind us and were over playing their passes, we were trying to play into feet and play more accurate shorter stuff - and were also wayward. If you are inaccurate on that type of surface you've had it and we struggled to get a rhythm.
"We got a tempo after half-time - even before they scored - and we had the better of that second period I felt. In the end, I thought we got just rewards for our efforts."
Bearing in mind the conditions, David used a Rugby World Cup analogy to explain that, on this occasion, the securing of the points was more important than the performance.
"If we look at the wonderful rugby performance, the one thing that Clive Woodward kept saying throughout the tournament was that he was not worried about being praised for any style - they needed to win for England. We needed to win for Tottenham on Sunday and we won."
