Pleat reaction

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

David Pleat made no excuses following Manchester City's shock second half comeback at the Lane on Wednesday night.

Three goals down at the break, with Joey Barton dismissed for two bookable offences, Kevin Keegan's side achieved their 'miracle' when Jon Macken headed the winner in stoppage time to leave all but a small section of the stadium in stunned silence.

"Fortune favoured the brave, City kept going, scored at vital times and we couldn't get that elusive goal," reflected the acting boss afterwards. "They kept plugging away and their goalkeeper made a couple of sensational saves in the second half - he worked far harder on the night than ours.

"In saying that, you have to look at the final score and we've been beaten. We're not looking to take credit for anything, the fact is the scoreline says everything and I have to give credit to Kevin Keegan.

"They've been on a bad run and, in the end, we helped them with very sloppy defending. You have to hold your hands up. We'll be looking for a reaction."

Despite being three goals to the good at half time with superb strikes from Ledley King, Robbie Keane and Christian Ziege, David feels the goals disguised a not to convincing 45 minutes.

"We didn't play well in the first half although we were three goals up and we didn't get any pattern to our game at all.

"We let ourselves down in the end."
