Pleat on high five
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
David Pleat admits he downplayed his pleasure immediately following the 5-2 victory over Wolves, but insists he was inwardly more than satisfied with the performance.
Straight after the game, David chose to highlight the positive influence on the match made by the visitors and to point out areas for improvement in our own team's display.
Speaking back at Spurs Lodge, the caretaker boss was able to offer a more considered verdict on the win that took the goalscoring exploits to eight goals in two games.
"I played it down after the game because I thought we could have passed the ball better at times and there were times when the opposition were excellent," reflected David.
"Many people will have revelled and enjoyed the excitement and brilliance of our finishing. It promises so much and gives us so much optimism.
"Sometimes, however, I see a negative slant put on things. I know, and I made it quite clear that I see the broader picture - at times Wolves were very lively and we knew they would be after the defeat at Highbury. Plus, once again, we looked a bit jaded after the midweek cup tie like we did when we played Bolton after the West Ham game.
"Reflecting on the game I know there are many positive points. I spoke to them at half-time about getting crosses in - and we got three goals from crosses. The first cross Anderton put in, there was Kanoute.
"We didn't get in the crosses in the first half, but we certainly did in the second. We certainly got shots in as well - well done lads. Lots of the things we've said we have to do, we did - and got five goals."
