Pleat on Hammers challenge
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
David Pleat suspects a London derby in front of a full house at the Lane will provide the perfect ingredients for a Carling Cup cracker against West Ham tonight.
We go into the game on the back of a five-match unbeaten run, while West Ham are chasing a first win under the stewardship of new boss Alan Pardew, who took over last week and has since presided over two draws against Nottingham Forest and Cardiff.
"We know about them obviously," said David of the Hammers. "We know all about Hutchison, Carrick, Defoe and, of course, Matthew Etherington.
"Being a London derby will add a flavour to the game and being a cup tie will add something extra. Having a full house will give the game some spice and we'll have to play well - simple as that.
"I think any cup tie is difficult, they are a leveller - they really are."
Former Reading manager Pardew took over from interim boss Trevor Brooking - who David described as the 'perfect caretaker' - and he feels the former Crystal Palace and Charlton player has accepted a greater degree of pressure in his new post.
"I admire all managers because I know how difficult it is. Alan has gone up a stage now at West Ham, where it will possibly be more hyped and perhaps carry a little bit more pressure.
"He'll have the same problems as at any club, management is about looking after a group of players and handling them as best he can - he will just now have a fiercer theatre in which to deal with them."
