Players showed great determination - Andre

Andre Villas-Boas praised the players’ desire after coming from behind twice to take what could prove to be a vital point at Chelsea.

In an open, often pulsating encounter at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea took an early lead through Oscar but that was cancelled out by one of the goals of the season from Emmanuel Adebayor.

Picking the ball up after a Chelsea corner, Ade sprinted fully 50 yards before curling over Petr Cech and into the top corner.

Our joy was short-lived though as the Blues took the lead again through Ramires five minutes before the break.

We continued to pile forward and levelled with 10 minutes remaining as Ade flicked the ball into the path of substitute Gylfi Sigurdsson, who dispatched the ball impressively into the far corner.

We were the team pushing for the win but it wasn’t to be and the point sees us stay fifth in the Premier League, one point behind Arsenal and three adrift of Chelsea with two matches remaining.

“The players showed great determination once again,” said Andre.”The example of that determination was when we scored for 2-2, picking the ball up out of the net and coming back to try and win.

“It was difficult conditions for us in the second half because of Chelsea’s counter-attacks. We had to do everything we could to get to 2-2 and I’m so pleased we managed to salvage a point.”

Andre admitted we had to risk leaving spaces for Chelsea’s counter-attacks as we pushed for the equaliser. “It was something we had to do,” he said.

“It shows the quality of the team and the ambition of the players.

“It was a pity there wasn’t time for 3-2, we had a late chance with Gareth’s free-kick, but it was a great game of football and we take a point. Let’s hope it will be an important point.”
