Players and fans have an understanding - Eric

Eric Dier has spoken about what it feels like from the players’ perspective when they head over to applaud our fans after matches.
As usual, the team received tremendous backing during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Liverpool and the players were quick to show their appreciation in front of the away end at the final whistle.
It was yet another example of the connection between our squad, management and fans and Eric says the players get a real buzz when they gesture towards those in the stands on matchdays after trying their utmost on the pitch over 90-plus minutes.
“For myself, personally, I was disappointed with the result at Anfield but when you go over to the fans at the end and they’re singing and they’re happy, at least you can be happy with the performance,” said the 22-year-old defensive midfielder.
“You understand them and the way they feel – you always get a good feeling from the fans when you’ve performed well and given everything.
“The reaction from them was brilliant at the end of the Liverpool game and that feeling always gives you extra motivation to do even more.”
Harry Kane’s equaliser on Merseyside came about after Christian Eriksen’s persistence in chasing down what appeared to be a lost cause on the left. That never-say-die attitude was also evident from Dele Alli in the lead-up to Harry’s memorable strike against Arsenal last month and Eric says the players always try to keep the ball in play and then make the most of the situation as they bid to pick up as many points as possible.
“That has to be the attitude we have,” he said. “If we want to go places we have to fight for every cause and try our best in every situation and we got our rewards at Liverpool for fighting for that ball.
“I think we showed a very mature performance with a good attitude on the day, we played with no fear but obviously we were disappointed not to get the win.
“Every game is important from now until the end of the season and Manchester United this weekend is no different so hopefully we can get the three points on Sunday.”
