Piercy's change for the better

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
For most players, the end of the season signals a frantic dash to the airport before an exotic holiday resort provides the ideal setting to re-charge the batteries and revitalise weary limbs.
John Piercy is not particularly looking forward to the enforced interlude, a change being as good as a break for the midfielder.
Having just forced his way into the first team picture, John’s frustration is understandable — but also unavoidable.
"That’s right, but the season is going to end so I’ve got to get round that one — but it’s going to come round again pretty soon," considered John. "We get about five weeks off so I’m going to keep my work up in the summer, do some fitness work and hopefully I can come back as strong as I am at the moment."
John has caught the eye of Glenn Hoddle in recent weeks with typically committed performances for the reserves, and he has been rewarded with a place in the first team squad for his endeavours.
It was a swashbuckling performance against Nottingham Forest in early April in front of the watching Hoddle that signalled promotion to the senior ranks.
"Personally it’s going well, I played well in the Forest game. I’ve had four games in a row in the centre of midfield and I’ve played, I think to myself, quite good in all of them. So all I can do can is keep playing to a standard and if I play in the first team it is a bonus to me, I just keep playing."
John was largely ignored under the George Graham regime, and he openly admits that a change at the top has worked in his favour and lifted his spirits.
"It was sort of made clear to me that I wouldn’t be playing, but I’ve got no problem with that because that’s the manager’s preference. I never had any problems with anyone - every manager is going to have his different views.
"He (George) didn’t want to play me, that’s fair enough but, the change has come and it’s perked me up as well, lifted me a bit and I’ve reacted well on the pitch I think."
