Phantom of the Lane
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Goran Bunjevcevic made his return from injury for the reserves against West Ham at Stevenage complete with mask after suffering a fractured cheekbone in mid-September.
Goran suffered the injury against Chelsea following an accidental collision with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and wore the mask to protect the injury against further damage.
Discussions in the stand at Stevenage centred on who Goran looked like decked out in his specially designed facewear. Suggestions such as Phantom of the Opera and a deep sea diver were quickly uttered. Another said that if the mask were blue or black and Goran was wearing tights, he would have done a passable impression of Batman in his midfield role.
"They've been calling me Phantom!" said Goran after the game.
"It went well. Of course, it is a little unusual. It was the first time I played with the mask and I was satisfied with my running and things like that because I haven't played for four weeks.
"The mask is certainly different though and I hope after the a few more games and more time on the training ground it will be much, much better.
"It was a little uncomfortable. Sometimes I went for a header and it just felt different for me."
As for his midfield role, he added: "I play at the back and now in midfield but sometimes the gaffer wants to try things out and that's fine by me."
Let's hope Goran's opera has a happy ending and he is strutting his stuff in the first team very soon.
