Perry's case for defence

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Perry says that defensive solidity has been the key to an improvement in results over the last few games.

The boys responded to four defeats in a row by keeping a clean sheet in the victory at Fulham, were unfortunate to be undone by a free-kick in the draw at Middlesbrough and topped off a profitable period with a great display to overcome Leeds.

In all three games, results have been earned by keeping it tight at the back and Chris says this was the aim all along.

"I think in the last few games we've looked quite solid defensively and that was the aim really after we'd let in a few fours," he said after Monday's win.

"We've gone to a back four, concentrated a bit more on defending and it seems to have paid off."

Chris says the defensive formation switch is not an issue and the team can easily adapt to whatever system the boss chooses for each game.

"I always played in a four at Wimbledon and when I first came to Tottenham with George Graham we played the same most of the time. So it's not a problem for me and whatever way we want to play I think we're suited to do either now."

Chris adds it was a good sign that the team kept their momentum after Leeds struck early in the second half.

"We didn't panic and that was good. There's been times this season when we've let a goal in and then caved in. We didn't here, we kept our shape, stuck to our guns and managed to keep them out."
