Perfect preparation - Steffen

Steffen Freund sees Valencia as the perfect friendly.

We face the highly-rated Spanish team at the famous Mestalla stadium on Thursday night, kick-off 10pm local time, 9pm UK.

Valencia have finished third in La Liga behind giants Barcelona and Real Madrid for the last three seasons and have played in the Champions League in four of the last six seasons – they will do so again in 2012-13.

This is our sixth pre-season friendly since our summer schedule began at Stevenage on July 14 as our Premier League opener at Newcastle on August 18 looms ever nearer.

“So far we’re still unbeaten and this will be a big game for us because they are third in La Liga, they play Champions League next season and it’s a perfect game to get ready for Newcastle,” said Assistant Head Coach Steffen.

“They have a really good team, players like Soldado, players involved in international teams with a lot of experience.

“They are one of the best teams in Spain, third last season - behind Real Madrid and Barcelona, is Valencia.

“It will be a good work out and we play away in our first game against one of the best teams in Newcastle, they did well last season and it will be a massive game on August 18.

“We’ve played against Watford, but they don’t keep the ball like Valencia and this is the perfect preparation for Newcastle.”
