Pedro reflects

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Despite a toe injury ruling him out for the final three months, Pedro Mendes insists he still holds fond memories from his first season in English football.

The Champions League winner with Porto was a consistent performer in our midfield for much of the campaign before he was forced to wear the dreaded protective boot that rendered him inactive and absent from the final 14 games.

He does admit, however, that on joining up last summer he did harbour a few doubts over how well he would settle in on moving to a new country.

"It has still be a very nice season and it is my first one," reflected Pedro. "I'm pleased, I knew it would be very different from Portuguese football and I did have some doubts over how I would settle in - to the games and the country.

"It was a nice surprise, I settled in very quickly from the beginning and it was a very, very good season until the last three months."

When we caught up with Pedro after the pre-season friendly away at Nottingham Forest he was slightly apprehensive ahead of the Premiership getting underway. He stated then that he felt gym work and body strengthening was in order to cope with the rigors of the domestic season.

If he was nervous over the prospect it hardly showed with the 26-year-old producing a string of tenacious performances and not shirking a tackle. Pedro remembers the conversation and his thinking is pretty much the same.

"When I first came here I had to think about the game in a different way, not just about the technical side but about the power of the game too. I tried to adapt as quickly as I could at the time and I think it worked out.

"It is true I did some work in the gym - but I have done a lot more in the last three months! It is a shame the season has ended because I am really strong and ready now!

"It is the idea I had in the beginning and I still have it. If you want to be good in English football you have to be fit and strong. For next season I will do exactly the same thing."
