Pedro on the mend

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Pedro Mendes admitted it is a relief to be playing again as he prepared for the last Peace Cup group game against Real Sociedad this morning in which a win would guarantee our participation in Sunday's final against Lyon.

We sit top of Group B with four points, followed by Sundowns on three, Boca Juniors on two and Real Sociedad with one. We enjoy a goal difference of plus two, while Sundowns and Real have a deficit of one, with Boca on zero. There are permutations where we could qualify for the final without winning tonight but a winning outcome in the Boca-Sundowns game could see us eliminated were that the case.

Pedro, who missed the final three months of last season with a broken toe, is thrilled to be back in the thick of the action again and started both games against Boca and Sundowns. He reports that lingering ill-effects from the injury are easing and his stamina levels are improving.

"It has been so long!" sighed the midfielder. "I missed playing so much and I am so happy to play again.

"When I played the first pre-season game at Stevenage it was still a little bit sore, but now it is getting better and better. The doctors told me at the beginning that the toe would be a little stiff for a while, so I have got to learn to live with that.

"My stamina is getting better now we are playing games and that is what pre-season is for, to get into shape."

Pedro feels our Peace Cup prospects are pretty good and would relish the chance of reaching the final against Group A winners Lyon on Sunday in Seoul. He is taking little notice of Real Sociedad's current position in Group B and suspects the team are in for a testing night's work here in Ulsan.

"It is a tournament with great teams from around the world coming together in Asia. It has been very well organised and I think it is a prestigious competition - if we can win the Peace Cup it will be a real achievement for us.

"Real Sociedad are a Primera League side from Spain so they will be a good team for sure. Real Sociedad traditionally have good teams with international players and young players who come through the ranks.

"The have a mixture of youth and experience and they still have a chance to reach the final if other results go their way. We have a very good chance to reach the final.

"It will be a tough game, but we would like to get back to Seoul and play in the final at the beautiful stadium."
