Pav intent on Cup glory

Roman Pavlyuchenko has made it clear how much FA Cup success means to him.

Roman Pavlyuchenko has made it clear how much FA Cup success means to him.

The striker has played a key role in us reaching the semi-finals of this season's competition - and now he has his sights set firmly on the trophy.

Having been taken to replays in the last three rounds, the Russian believes going all the way is a must for the team.

Portsmouth stand in our way of a place in the Final, and ‘Super Pav' cannot wait to take them on at the Home of Football on Sunday.

He said: "It's been a long road to where we are now in the FA Cup and we've finally made the semi-final.

"Not many teams get to play at this stage of the competition so we are thankful to be there, but my attitude is that we should aim to win the Cup at all costs.

"Wembley is the best stadium I've ever played at and so it is every footballer's dream to play in a game like this. I'm sure it will be packed with fans so I'm looking forward to it a lot."

We can take heart from our 2-0 success over Pompey in the league at the Lane a fortnight ago - but Pav feels that result will have no bearing on what happens this weekend.

With the South Coast club adrift at the bottom of the Premier League table, the 28-year-old knows the chance of reaching the FA Cup Final could galvanise Avram Grant's side at Wembley.

Pav added: "This will be a totally different game from the league match. It's a totally different ball game when you play in the Cup.

"Every team pulls itself together and puts in that little bit extra when it's a cup tie, so it won't be an easy game, that I can be sure of."
