Paul pulls through

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Young defender Paul O'Donoghue made his a long-awaited return from a serious knee injury against Northwood - the high point of Colin Calderwood's evening.

The centre-half has been out for eight months following cartilige surgery and worked throughout the summer in order to be ready for the pre-season games.

He completed 90 minutes against a robust Northwood attack and reported no ill-effects afterwards.

"It was good to see Paul O'Donoghue back after such a long time out," was the reaction of Calderwood. "I thought he worked his feet very well on a lot of occasions against a centre forward who was pretty agressive.

"I was pleased for him above anything else. He's come back and I think he'll take a lot of confidence from the fact that he stood up to a physical task and the way he played as well."

Meanwhile, Colin was pleased with the fitness and application of his young team against the Ryman Premier League outfit.

"The boys have waited quite a while because of the first team games and a few of our group have been involved with them.

"They have had two and a half weeks of training and we have had to bear in mind that our first game wasn't for quite a while.

"The pleasing thing was that they were all going fairly strong towards the end of the game. You are looking for a sustained effort over 90 minutes and I think we got that.

"It was a good exercise on a not so good pitch and a lot of the mistakes could be put down to that. We've got a few excuses, but have come through with no injuries, which is important."
