Paul Robinson said he was glad to renew acquaintances with the White Hart Lane faithful at Ledley King’s Testimonial.
Our popular former stopper started the second half in goal for Ledley’s Guest XI, joining a host of ex-players who returned to join in the celebrations for our inspirational former defender and Club captain.
England’s former number one pulled off a string of fine saves before being substituted for Tony Parks with a few minutes left – but there was still time for ‘Robbo’ to launch his goalkeeping gloves into the ecstatic South Stand crowd before he left the field.
It was a great gesture from the 34-year-old, who is with Blackburn Rovers these days, and he insisted that rewarding the supporters has always been a priority for him.
“I’ve done that with the fans most of the time, win or lose,” said Paul. “I like to say thank you and just give a little bit back.
“It was an absolutely brilliant, fantastic night. I always love coming back to play here but to come back to the Lane and put the Tottenham shirt on was very special.
“It was a decent game, good for the crowd to watch, and some of the legends showed us they’ve still got a bit as well!”
The Ledley Guest XI ran out 6-3 winners against Spurs on the night, with Robbo delighted to see the event so well supported by players and fans alike.
“It was absolutely fantastic for Ledley,” he added. “I think you can see the respect that he’s got in the game from the players and supporters just from the turn-out. It’s nothing more than he deserves.”
