Pat Staunton Hotspur Cup success
What would it be like to play on the same training pitches where Gareth Bale developed his skills at Spurs?
Teams of young players got to find out for themselves this weekend at Spurs Lodge in Chigwell, as Tottenham Hotspur’s Global Coaching team hosted this year’s Pat Staunton Hotspur Cup.
Spurs very own exciting Junior summer tournament was held at our premier training centre Spurs Lodge, which until very recently was home to the Spurs first team squad.
Juniors teams aged from Under 8 to Under 13s gathered from as far afield as Blackburn, Devon and Coventry for two days of football competition and fun.
We were delighted to welcome Irish team Forth Celtic from Wexford in the Republic of Ireland, as well as under-8 team B1901 from Denmark who’d travelled to be with us.
Chirpy was a big hit with young players as he helped hand out trophies and showed off some of his dance moves.
Champion freestyler Charlotte Lade from Disney XD’s ‘Goalmouth’ show proved hugely popular, showing off some breathtaking tricks.
But in the end it was all about the action as the teams came out, the goals flew in, and at times penalties were needed to decide the closest matches.
Congratulations go to our winners:
Under- 8’s: Badshot Lea Titans
Under-9’s: Upminster Park Rovers
Under-10’s: Chingford Boys
Under-11’s: Ridgeway Rovers
Under-12’s: Patcham United
Under-13’s: Parkfield Youth
We were delighted to be able to welcome Spurs legend Garry Mabbutt to present the medals and hand over the precious silverware.
Gary offered great advice to the youngsters as delivered his speech to the assembled winners and the runners-up: “At your age, the game is all about having fun,“ he told the teams. Gary also reminded the audience that improvement comes through practice and hard work: “Always make sure you spend some time working on the weaker elements of your game. If you do this you will become a better player.”
It was a brilliant couple of days, and thanks go to all the teams who took part, and everyone who worked on the tournament.
Andy Rogers, Tottenham Hotspur Global Coaching manager commented: “The teams were a credit to their parents and their coaches. The quality of the football player was very high across the two days, and the whole tournament was played in a great spirit. We look forward to welcoming teams back next year.”
If you’d like your team or a Junior player to experience Spurs Lodge for themselves, why not book a place on a Spurs Lodge summer soccer schools.
