Pat proud of boys
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Pat Holland paid tribute to the FA Youth Cup exploits of his under-18 side following their exit at the semi-final stage to Ipswich Town.
It was an absorbing cup run for the boys, one that saw them perform three times on the White Hart Lane stage, as well as trips to Anfield, Vicarage Road and Portman Road.
Two goals down from the 1st leg last Friday, substitute Simon Dawkins cut the deficit on 62 minutes, but the lead on the night lasted only a minute and Ipswich went on to grab a late winner.
"They have done great, the lads," considered Pat afterwards. "I would personally have predicted going this far in the competition, I knew this would be the real crunch one and Ipswich can play.
"I thought the tie over both legs was terrific, it was smashing for people to come out and watch the kids play and both sides played in the right manner."
"We looked a little bit edgy in the first half, our passing wasn't the best and we didn't get it into the front men early enough or get behind them. Once we got the goal we looked really lively and I thought 'come on boys, this is your chance now'.
"It was disappointing not to keep the lead and it gave us a real hurdle, but they still kept going.
"The whole run has been fantastic. We've worked with the kids, given them videos, a breakdown of the opposition and it is a breakdown they don't usually get. It is terrific for their education."
Pat insists there will be no problem in picking his team up for the remaining challenges of the season - which include a few significant fixtures.
"The boys will be alright, we've got some good games coming up. We've got Charlton on Saturday, Chelsea and Arsenal - we can start experimenting for next year, which I always look forward to."
