Parker on United point

Scott Parker was impressed with the character of the team to finally break down a resolute United and secure a dramatic 1-1 draw in injury time on Sunday.

The midfielder admitted Robin van Persie's goal in the 25th minute made it tough with Premier League leaders' ability to strike in a flash on the break.

However, we were undaunted by the task and after seeing David De Gea thwart us on a number of occasions, Clint Dempsey struck in the final minute to grab a share of the spoils as the snow tumbled down at the Lane.

"Our game plan was to try and press them high and get in their faces but when you play against a team like United they move the ball quickly and find spaces," reflected Scott, who was everywhere, especially in the first half.

"The goal killed us a little, the conditions were tough as well but I thought we showed good character against a top, top side and played really well.

"They scored and sat back, had five in midfield and it was difficult to break them down. It was typical Man U really, they were trying to hit us on the break if they could, but we stayed quite solid as well and I thought we always looked a threat going forward.

"In the second half we had some really good chances through Clint, Gareth, JD as well, so it’s a deserved point and perhaps a little disappointing not to get all three.

"I’ve seen the statistics as well and it’s not often you dominate United like we did, so that speaks volumes really."

Scott was on the bench after being substituted for Tom Huddlestone in the last 10 minutes and described the moment when Clint struck.

"It was wicked, great. Everyone was buzzing that we nicked the goal and got what we wanted and deserved out of the game. I was tempted to join in the celebrations but I thought I might pull up with cramp, so thought I better not!"
