Palace v Spurs - Mauricio's preview

23 January 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino feels our trip to Crystal Palace today (Saturday, January 23) represents a “good challenge” after back-to-back wins over the last week.

We’re carrying positive momentum into the contest at Selhurst Park, kick-off 3pm, following Wednesday’s excellent 2-0 victory at Leicester City in the FA Cup and a 4-1 triumph at home to Sunderland last time out in the Premier League.

Currently perched in fourth place on 39 points, four behind Manchester City in third but just two ahead of Manchester United in fifth, Head Coach Mauricio says the players are fully focused on getting the better of Alan Pardew’s side in a bid to strengthen our position in the standings.

But he knows we have a tough task on our hands, having slipped to a 2-1 defeat at the home of the Eagles this time last year.

“Crystal Palace have a very strong team and it’s always difficult, last season at Palace was difficult for us, but I think it’s a good challenge to go and try to win the game,” he said.

“In the last two games we’ve had good victories and good performances too and I think it’s important to arrive in a very good condition, very motivated and strong mentally. This squad shows maturity and a strong mentality and this is the most important thing – you need to play and show that you are better than the opponents.

“The game arrives at a very good moment for us. We are in a moment where we need to take the three points to settle our place higher in the table and I think it’s a very important game for us.

“It’s true that we’re coming from a very busy period but we have a strong squad and the players are focused on playing and taking every game in a positive way.”
