Palace 0-1 Spurs - Andre's view

18 August 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

Andre Villas-Boas was delighted with our opening day win at Crystal Palace on Sunday.

There were plenty of positives for the Head Coach after Roberto Soldado – one of four debutants – slotted home the winner in the 50th minute.

Soldado was joined by Nacer Chadli and Paulinho in the starting line-up  - Andre opting for 4-3-3 at Selhurst Park – and the quartet was completed when Etienne Capoue entered the fray for Mousa Dembele in the 57th minute.

We created a host of chances before and after Soldado converted from the spot following Dean Moxey’s handball from Aaron Lennon’s cross.

Palace kept going and created a couple of late chances but the efforts on goal statistic of 18-2 in our favour going into the last five minutes (eventually 18-15) told the story.

“I’m extremely happy,” said Andre. “It was a good performance, we created lots of chances and we were unlucky not to put the game to bed after the goal.

“It’s always difficult to go to Palace and to perform like that gives us a positive boost of confidence.

“It’s a good three points for us at an away ground and hopefully we can continue with this level of performance.”

It wasn’t lost that it our first penalty in the Premier League in Andre’s time at the club!

“Finally!” he smiled. “We deserved the win, the lads deserve credit and now we focus on Dinamo Tbilisi, another important game.”
