Ossie sends his thanks

Thu 23 January 2014, 19:10|Tottenham Hotspur

Ossie Ardiles has thanked Spurs fans for their messages of support on his release from hospital following a car accident in the Falkland Islands on Monday evening.

Our legendary former midfielder was alongside fellow legend Ricky Villa and son Freddy, plus another four passengers, when his vehicle overturned.

Thankfully, no-one was seriously injured. Ossie was kept in the King Edward VII Hospital in Port Stanley and needed 35 stitches in a head wound, but he reports that he's now resting with family and friends at his brother's in Cordoba, Argentina.

In an email to supporters, Ossie explained what happened, that he was fine and planning a visit to White Hart Lane soon...

"I can only say thank you to all the Tottenham fans for their messages of support. As always! Thank-you very much for their concern and for all their best wishes," said Ossie.

"It was a huge accident. I was driving. This re-inforced the thought that my Spurs mates always have about me: I cannot drive!

"Ricky Villa was my co-pilot and we were saved, because we were using our seat-belts. My son Freddy was in the car as well, plus four crewmen.

"We lost control of the car and we overtuned. We were like in a cocktail, up and down, up and down, until we finally we stopped with a bang.

"It is a miracle that no-one was badly injured. Ricky had just a little bruising! Always a lucky man! I had lots of tests, no internal injuries and 35 stiches later, I am okay now.

"After the accident, I was the main concern because I was losing a lot of blood. However, when I saw the RAF helicopter, I knew my ordeal was over. Big, big thanks to Dr John!

"From there to the Intensive Care Unit in the King Edward VII hospital in Port Stanley where we were looked after superbly by everybody there. Big, big thank-you to everybody there, especially to the nurses, these angels in uniform. They were fighting between themselves to look after us!

"I am in Cordoba now in the house of my brother, resting with family and friends.

"I will be back in London next week and hope to see you all at White Hart Lane.

"Thank-you again and Come On You Spurs!"
