|MAN UNITED v TOTTENHAM|
There may be a feeling of role reversal when Manchester United entertain Tottenham for the first time in 2002-03 this Saturday. When the sides clashed in the Premiership last September the Red Devils were sniffing around the upper echelons of the division while Spurs rested in midtable - how things change.
After contesting half a dozen games in the new campaign Glenn Hoddle's side are second only to north London rivals Arsenal having won four of their opening fixtures. Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson's ensemble is meandering in 10th place after surprisingly losing half of their clashes.
Despite witnessing United's worst ever start to a Premiership season the manager maintains that there is not too much wrong, stating: "The confidence is not a problem. We have played some great football and been defending very well. We just need to improve things in the last third."
The Manchester giants have completed more accurate passes in the opposition's danger zone than any other side and unleashed 75 shots, yet they have only managed to convert 7% of their efforts on goal. Indeed, Fergie's team have netted less than a strike per game on average - a far cry from the rampant side that blasted nine past the Lilywhites in 180 minutes of top-flight action last term.
In contrast Spurs are flourishing in attack and have recently been boosted by the purchase of Robbie Keane. The jinking Irishman earned his new club a penalty on his debut and will be seeking to go one better at Old Trafford by opening his account, although he'll have to sharpen his eye for goal in order to do so.
Against West Ham the former Leeds hitman fired a hat-trick of chances wide of the mark contributing to Tottenham's lowly 31% shooting accuracy - the second-worst in the division. Hoddle's men may need to improve this rate is they are to punish the hosts, who have leaked just a solitary goal on home soil.
But the Spurs threat is carried as much by right midfielder Simon Davies as it is by the likes of Teddy Sheringham at present. The Welsh international has attempted 10 efforts at goal and tested the goalkeeper with a fifth of them. He may be a key player on Saturday as the visitors look to dominate the centre of the pitch against their injury-hit hosts.
Tottenham will be keen to avenge last year's humiliating 5-3 and 4-0 defeats and they are in the best possible shape to do so.
