OPTA PREVIEW: Tottenham v Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough are the next visitors to White Hart Lane and Tottenham will be out for revenge after being on the receiving end of a humiliating double from the Teesiders in the Premiership last season.
Boro inflicted Spurs heaviest defeat of the campaign on them at the tail end of the season with a 5-1 defeat at the Riverside. They also romped to a 3-0 win at White Hart Lane in September last year and have proved to be difficult opponents for Tottenham in recent years.
Tottenham have won just one of their last ten meetings with Middlesbrough and have only won four of their previous Premiership meetings with them.
Boro have shown much promise this season but have so far failed to grab the results that some of their performances deserve. The introduction of Gazieka Mendieta has added some creative flair to the midfield but the Middlesbrough forwards have failed and Boro have netted just seven times this season — the second lowest total in the league.
The Teesiders have managed just to wins to date this season — both by a 1-0 margin. With the current worst home record in the Premiership, Steve McClaren will be glad that his team are on the road where they have enjoyed better fortunes.
Tottenham meanwhile will be looking to fill the void left by the injury to Freddie Kanoute. The summer signing has hit six of Tottenham’s ten league goals and without him the onus falls on Robbie Keane and Bobby Zamora to provide the firepower.
