Open letter from the Chairman
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
A message to supporters from Chairman Daniel Levy.
The past fortnight has been one of mixed emotions for us all. The residual and on-going respect that we have for Glenn as a significant player in the history of the Club, was combined with the realisation that we could not continue with the First Team under his management. Glenn will always be welcome at the Lane as, indeed, will John Gorman and we wish them both well for the future.
As I said at the time, our decision was not taken lightly or quickly - I was determined to give Glenn every chance of success. However, the poor start to this season, coupled with the disappointing results from the second half of last season and the lack of any real signs of progress and team building, all played a part in our assessment.
There has been the expected media coverage about likely successors, with comment from many sources, including agents and even senior management at other Clubs. All this serves to produce is unnecessary and unhelpful speculation. This is no doubt set to continue and I would ask you all to be circumspect.
It is not ideal having to change managers mid-season and as a Club we are extremely fortunate to have someone of David Pleat's abilities to step in and seamlessly take over as Caretaker Manager. David is highly experienced and has a great love for our Club.
With the First Team in David's capable hands, the process of appointing a new manager has begun. It will, however, be thorough and we shall take the time necessary to make the best choice, in the long-term interest of our Club.
We shall go quietly about our business of seeking a new manager and you, our supporters, will be the first to hear any news via the Club's official channels of communication.
I should like to thank you all for your support, which is invaluable to the team at this stage in the season.
