Open and shut Kase

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Kasey Keller reasons that, after a compact display in the first half at the Riverside Stadium, the team allowed the game to become too open in the second against Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening.

Spurs pretty much dictated the tempo for the first 45 on Teeside, restricting the home side to minimal opportunities, while carving out the best chance of the half when Darren Anderton had goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer at full stretch to tip over his volley from 20 yards.

Boro added another striker to their team after the break in the shape of Massimo Maccarone and the pace of the game picked up considerably in the second period. Kasey saved a penalty from Maccarone after the referee - wrongly it appeared - adjudged Dean Richards to have fouled Joseph Desire Job before the same player somehow missed a clear chance from six yards out.

Szilard Nemeth settled the encounter on 74 minutes from a counter attack, but Kasey revealed the team were unhappy that a throw-in decision went against them ahead of the decisive break.

"The guys were complaining a little because they felt it was our throw-in," reflected Kasey afterwards. "Unfortunately they were able to counter attack us and Nemeth managed to get past Dean and had enough time to take it around me.

"It was a shame because in the first half I felt we played quite well and made it very difficult for them. The only thing that we were really complaining about at the end of the game was that we made it too open for them in the second half.

"We didn't really restrict them the way we did in the first. We didn't react to that and let them have a little too much of the ball and too much time to play, where in the first half we were tremendous in closing them down.

"Unfortunately, over the last few games we have been playing great for a half and have struggled to finish games off. That was a bit of the case here. You have to give them some credit as well, they changed it and made a difference.

"Losing 1-0 is a shame and now we fight on."
