Onwards and upwards for Simon

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

It's no wonder Simon Davies can't wait for next season - he describes last term simply as 'a season to forget'.

In his own 'annus horriblis' the midfielder sat it out for four months with a hip injury during which he missed Wales Euro 2004 play-off against Wales - they lost to Russia - and on his recovery, managed only nine appearances before another setback, this time a shin problem that kept him out for a further two months. In all, he only managed 20 starts last season.

"It was a season to forget, basically," reflected Simon. "I'm 24 this year and I really wanted to establish myself, to go on and be as good a player as I can and it hasn't happened.

"We made a bad start, the injury came along, the manager changed and things didn't get going both team wise and personally.

"I'd never really had a serious injury before that hip problem. I'd had six, seven years of first team football. Perhaps that caught up with me but I'm due an injury-free season next time around. Throw Wales into it and it wasn't the best of times. I'm already focusing on next season and better times ahead.

"I can't wait for next season. It will be a new set-up next season and it will be a big one for everyone."

Despite the downs, Simon favourably recalls a couple of matches to remember - Wales' Euro 2004 qualifying group game in Italy and our win at Charlton.

"The season started off for me with so many big games," he added. "Italy away in the San Siro, I'll never forget that.

"There was a lot on that and that's the biggest game I've been involved with. It didn't turn out the best but I thought we gave a good account of ourselves.

"Then I got injured and that was just about that until January. I came back and scoring on my return was a good highlight and then Charlton away, that was the best performance of the season."
