'One of my best' - Harry Kane on his second goal and a big win against Stoke

Another hat-trick, a wonder strike, a key 4-0 win and a little piece of Spurs history - it was another day to remember for Harry Kane as we hit top gear against Stoke at the Lane.

It was quite a day for the striker.

His opening goal, and arguably most important in the context of the match, was the 100th of his club career and 84th for Spurs, a trademark low drive across Stoke goalkeeper Lee Grant for 1-0 on 14 minutes.

His second was technically a magnificent strike as Christian Eriksen clipped a corner to the edge of the box and Harry let the ball go across him onto his ‘weaker’ left foot and hammered home first-time.

There was a stroke of luck for the hat-trick as his free-kick from 30 yards deflected home off Stoke’s defensive wall.

As the ball hit the net, Harry became the first Spur since Jermain Defoe in 2009-10 to score three hat-tricks or more in a season – and only the ninth player to achieve that feat in the Club’s history.

Harry then set-up Dele Alli for 4-0 before half-time and a wonderful first half display, not least considering the disappointment of a Europa League exit against KAA Gent less than 72 hours earlier.

He came close again in the second half - denied by Grant - as we kept control of the match, the scoreline staying the same.

“It was important coming off the back of Thursday, we were all disappointed and gutted,” said Harry. “We wanted to change that.

“We knew if we started fast and scored a couple of goals it would be a good day for us and we did that. It was a great first half to go 4-0 up and we then controlled it in the second half.”

It was Harry’s third hat-trick in nine games following recent trebles against West Brom and Fulham.

He added: “For the first goal the ball just rebounded to me and I tried to get a quick shot off and it managed to sneak in.

“The second goal was one of the best of my career, a strike with the left foot and as a striker, you always want a bit of luck and I got that with the third goal. It was great to finish off with the fourth as well and to see Dele on the scoresheet.”

Ex-Spur Jermaine Jenas, lending his expert eye for BBC Five Live, was raving about Harry’s second goal afterwards.

Funnily enough though, Harry might have been denied it - as his shot fizzed at goal, Victor Wanyama jumped over the ball, any slight touch or attempted flick home and the midfielder would surely have claimed it!

“I was hoping Christian was going to put the ball on to my right foot!" said Harry. "I don’t know if he was passing to me or Jan because Jan was behind me but I thought I’d have a swing at it with my left foot and luckily Victor jumped over it as well. It was nice to see it go into the bottom corner.

"Victor had a joke with me afterwards saying he should have flicked it in! After his goal on Thursday night he probably wanted another but he left that one for me!”
