Once Upon: Dan Raywood
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
During my early years during the eighties I had flirtations with some of
the big sides of the time, Everton, Liverpool and Man Utd.
However when it came to cup final day I would pick a side to support for that game but on cup final day 1987 I was bitten by Spurs-itis.
I was just weeks away from my 11th birthday and Spurs were to be my team
for the day.
As we dashed through the game I willed the whites on and kept my eyes fixed upon a certain Chris Waddle. When Coventry eventually lifted the cup I felt a sadness inside that did not usually appear and it was after this game and when I returned to school that I found out I was not the only one supporting Spurs that day and it was safe to say that when conversing about Spurs at lunchtime and breaktime, well yeah, and in lessons too, I found that Spurs were something special to me.
I guess I just picked up the Spurs fever on the day of the cup final and they have been in my blood ever since.
It was a shame when Hoddle and Waddle left straight after but two more heroes would appear in Gazza and Lineker, and when they appeared as the stars of the 1990 world cup a real sense of pride befell me.
And so now, 15 years later, Spurs are still as important to me as ever and I am still waiting to better. What is the greatest moment in my time supporting Spurs? The 1991 FA Cup win.
