Today 12 years ago, some familiar faces helped us make progress in the FA Cup...
ON THIS DAY - JANUARY 16
2002 - Tim Sherwood and Les Ferdinand, now Head Coach and First Team Coach respectively, were part of the team that secured a 2-0 win against Coventry City at Highfield Road in the third round of the FA Cup. Gus Poyet, Darren Anderton and Ledley King were also in the line-up.
Simon Davies set-up the opener for Gus, who powered home his header after 23 minutes and Les completed the scoring in the 53rd minute, tucking home from close range after City defender Gary Breen turned Darren Anderton's cross onto his own post.
We went on to reach the quarter-finals before losing to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Our team that day - Sullivan, Richards, King, Perry, Taricco; Anderton (Leonhardsen, 80), Davies, Poyet, Sherwood, Davies; Ferdinand (Iversen, 73), Rebrov.
