On the pace

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Martin Jol insisted pace was always a key this summer after newcomers Aaron Lennon and Wayne Routledge showed flashes of their lightning speed in our pre-season opener at Stevenage.

Aaron particularly caught the eye in the first half of the 3-0 win at Broadhall Way with a couple of chances and one lightning 50-yard break before setting up the opening goal for Fredi Kanoute.

He was replaced by Wayne at half-time and the England Under-21 international had his say with a turn of foot and deft pass to release Jermain Defoe for our third goal. Mido also scored.

“They are both talented and we wanted pace, exciting wing play, plenty of crosses in and good service and we also wanted to give the supporters something as well,” said Head Coach Martin. “That’s why we brought the two lads in.

“Everyone can see we’ve made the right decision on Lennon because perhaps not everyone would have known him but now the fans have seen him, I’m sure they will be satisfied.

“He has to work on his final pass but what more can you expect? He’s only 18 years old and a great prospect.

“Of course, people knew all about Routledge, he had a terrific season at Palace and that’s good thing.”
