Darren Bent was thrilled to get off the mark in his first game in a Spurs shirt against Stevenage Borough on Saturday.Even though it was only the opening encounter of our pre-season schedule at Broadhall Way, finding the net on the occasion clearly meant a lot to our recent signing from Charlton Athletic.

"It is always nice to find the net in your first game and get rid of the nerves," considered Darren. "If you do go a while without a goal it can be a worry, but I was delighted with the goal and was also bought down for the penalty, so I am happy," he added, before looking back on his cool finish on the run just after the interval.

"Yes, but I missed probably an easier one shortly after. It is a case of blowing away the cobwebs and I am looking forward to the next game.

"It was fantastic to pull on the shirt, I was a bit nervous before the game when we were warming up, but it is all part and parcel of it. I enjoyed the game and getting off the mark makes it special."

Darren was paired up with Robbie Keane in the 3-1 victory and the captain on the day made something of an impression on the new boy.

"Robbie is brilliant and I have known that for a long time. He is just one of the great strikers at the club and that is why I wanted to come here and be part of it."
